Our featured plane this year will be Whiskey 7, the historic WWII C-47 from the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, NY. Whiskey 7 was the lead plane in the second wave of planes to drop Allied paratroopers behind German lines on D-Day (June 6, 1944). Restored to its original condition, Whiskey 7 tours will be available for free, and rides will be available for a fee. See the link below for more information.

Discovery Flights will also be available.

"Discovery Flights" will also be available from the Great Lakes Flight Center. A Discovery Flight is a 30-minute flight in a Cessna 152 or 172. It is basically an introductory flight lesson designed for aspiring pilots or aviation enthusiasts. It serves as a hands-on preview to determine if you want to pursue a pilot's license or simply participate in a bucket-list adventure.

In each aircraft, the pilot/instructor occupies one seat. The Cessna 152 has room for one guest (who sits behind one set of airplane controls and has the option of operating the controls under the guidance of the pilot/instructor). The Cessna 172 has room for three guests. The guest in front has the opportunity to operate the controls, if desired. These flights are offered directly by the Great Lakes Flight Center. The costs are as follows and are per 30-minute flight, not per passenger: Longer flights are also available.

  • 2-seat Cessna 152s: $149.40 cash/check or $155.63 card
  • 4-seat Cessna 172s: $178.10 cash/check or $185.52 card

For Discovery Flights, there are no advance sales or reservations; rides can be purchased on the day of the event only.
